Health and early detection
Are you a medical service? Can you give me medical advice?
No. We’re a peer support group, so we share experience rather than medical advice. If you’re worried about your health, please speak to your GP or call NHS 111. For specialist information, you can also contact the Prostate Cancer UK Specialist Nurses on 0800 074 8383
Why does early detection matter?
Prostate cancer often causes no symptoms in its early stages. When it’s found early, while it’s still contained in the prostate, there are usually more treatment options available. That’s why we encourage men to learn about their risk and talk to their GP.
Who is at higher risk of prostate cancer?
Men aged 50 and over, Black men, and men with a father or brother who has had prostate cancer are at higher risk. Our Early Detection page has more information, along with links to the West Midlands Cancer Alliance and Prostate Cancer UK.
How can I find out if I should be tested?
Speak to your GP about the PSA blood test. They can explain the benefits and limits of testing so you can make an informed choice. The Prostate Cancer UK website also has a short online risk checker.
