About the group
Who is the group for?
Anyone affected by prostate cancer. That includes men who are worried about symptoms, newly diagnosed, in treatment, or living with the after-effects, as well as partners, family members, and friends. You don’t need to have been diagnosed to come along. You’re welcome if you are waiting for tests or simply want to learn more. We are an inclusive group and also welcome people of diverse cultures across Birmingham.
Is the group only for men?
Our focus is supporting men with prostate cancer, but partners, wives, daughters, sons, and friends are very welcome. Prostate cancer affects whole families.
When and where do you meet?
We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, 7pm to 9pm. See our Meetings page for location, directions, parking, and public transport. The venue has step-free access and accessible toilets. Please tell us in advance if you have any particular access needs and we’ll do our best to help.
Do I need to book?
No, just turn up or you can let us know you’re coming by contacting us by email: info@birminghampcsg.com or telephone: 07958 471037
Is there a cost?
No, the group is free to attend. However, you are welcome to make a small voluntary charge of your choice to cover refreshments and room hire.
Do I have to speak or share my story?
Not at all. Many people come to their first meeting just to listen. You can join in whenever and however you feel comfortable.
What happens at a meeting?
We start with a welcome and refreshments. We have a guest speaker and a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to answer any medical questions and then we have small groups for informal discussions.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, please do. A partner, relative, or friend is welcome to come along for support.
Privacy and confidentiality
Will my details or what I say be kept private?
Yes. We offer a confidential and safe space and we never share your personal details with anyone without your permission.
Will I be photographed or recorded?
No, unless you’ve clearly agreed to it beforehand.
